Hello, this is Hokuriku News Department. The Asakura Clan Ruins are located in Ichijodani, Fukui Prefecture. It is a place where the remains of samurai residences, temples, and other structures are widely scattered, making you feel as if you were transported back in time to the Warring States period. Many people know it from its famous commercials!
The Ichijodani Asakura Clan Site Museum is scheduled to open this October. I recently attended a preview of the museum!
The brand new museum building blends in with the rich nature of Ichijodani. I am looking forward to seeing what kind of exhibits there will be....
As soon as you enter the first floor of the museum, there is a video theater that tells you about the history of the warring feudal lords Asakura and Ichijodani in an easy-to-understand manner.
Moving on, the "Ishijiki Iki" (stone paving remains) discovered during the pre-construction survey are displayed in their original state as they were dug out. It is believed to have been used as a landing place or a stone-paved road at that time, and the sheer scale (38 m long) is astonishing! The bustle of the Warring States period comes to mind.
On the second floor is a large diorama that recreates the Ichijodani area as it was in those days! Not only the buildings but also the people are reproduced with rich expressions.... It is a fun exhibit for families.
Last but not least, the best part. A part of "Asakura-kan" is reproduced in the museum. It is amazing to see the full-size and elaborate garden and tatami room where Shogun Ashikaga Yoshiaki was invited.

Looking out from inside the recreated museum, the peaceful scenery of Ichijodani jumps out at you. I felt as if I was really looking at the scenery of those days.
The distance from the museum to the Asakura-kan site is about 2 km. The Hokuriku Shinkansen Line is scheduled to extend to Tsuruga in the spring of 2024. The Hokuriku Shinkansen line is scheduled to extend to Tsuruga in the spring of 2024, making this a perfect spot for travelers from the Tokyo metropolitan area.
