The Aviation Museum is located right next to Narita Airport, so you can see airplanes taking off and landing up close. Of course, it is not just that, but the museum also has exhibits about Narita Airport, the history of aircraft, a flight simulator, and other slightly geeky exhibits, making it a fun spot for both enthusiasts and those who are not familiar with airplanes, as well as children and adults alike.

Introducing the highlights of the museum!

Let's start from the 1st floor

On the left is a jumbo jet engine, on the right is a large model of an airplane, and in the back is a section of a Boeing 747 sliced into a circle. All of them are overwhelming in their size.
The first thing you will see when you visit the West Wing on the first floor is a huge model of an airplane! It is one of the world's largest movable models and is one-eighth the size of an actual airplane. The shape and movement have been reproduced as closely as possible to the real thing, and projection mapping is regularly shown to explain how airplanes work.
Next to the large model is a jumbo jet engine, which is also surprisingly large when viewed up close. The engine on display is the real thing, and here, too, projection mapping is used to explain the engine. And in the back, a real jumbo jet is displayed in a circle to show the structure of the inside of the plane. All of them are overwhelmingly large, and you will be amazed once again at the fact that such large objects are flying in the sky.
In addition, there are various uniformed flight attendants from different airlines on display, a "galley" where food is prepared for passengers and simple cooking, and a cockpit where visitors can take photos in the cockpit. You can also enjoy sitting in the actual cabin seats and taking photos. How about a picture sitting in a first-class seat?

Go to the 2nd floor

Inside the cockpit where you can experience piloting a large model.
On the way up the stairs to the second floor, there is a cockpit where you can experience piloting an airplane for a fee.
Moving to the back of the museum, visitors can see a three-dimensional timeline that shows the history of aircraft over the past 100 years, from its invention to the present day, with approximately 300 aircraft models in three stages: the dawn, development, and maturity periods.
Moving further into the East Wing, visitors will find a section introducing Narita Airport. A large screen shows 31 different avatars working at Narita Airport, and visitors can use the touch panel in front of the screen to learn about the work at the airport. Other exhibits include a diorama of Narita Airport and a display about the "Eco-Airport," an environmentally friendly airport. There is also a corner where you can take pictures wearing the uniforms of airport employees, so you can enjoy yourself as a pilot, flight attendant, airline mechanic, and many others. In addition, photos of airline planes that have flown to Narita Airport from its opening to the present are also on display.

3rd and 4th floors

From the observation deck on the third floor, visitors can see planes taking off and landing at Narita Airport up close with the powerful sound of their engines. The rice used here is locally grown in Shibayama Town, and there are several in-flight meal-like menus that will make you feel like you are on an airplane. You can enjoy your meal while watching the planes take off and land at Narita Airport.

Go to the top floor (5th floor)

The planes are about this close when they take off, but you may be able to see them closer when they land.
From the observation display room on the 5th floor, you can sit and relax while watching airplanes take off and land at Narita Airport, which is the best part of this location. Other exhibits include models of airplanes from various countries, control tables, and maniac tools.

Not only indoors, there are also attractions outside the museum!

In the outdoor exhibition area, approximately 20 propeller-driven aircraft and helicopters that have flown around the world are on display.
The nose section of a real jumbo jet that has actually been to Narita Airport is also on display, and visitors can enter the cabin for a paid guided tour. It is a part of the aircraft that you would never normally be able to enter, and it makes you wonder what it is like inside.

Don't miss the boarding experience!

In addition to the flight simulator in the west wing on the 1st floor, you can also experience the flight simulator.
The DC-8 Flight Experience in the east wing on the 1st floor is a refurbished version of a real simulator used by Japan Airlines for pilot training, and allows you to experience a takeoff and landing course at Narita Airport on automatic pilot control. The "DC-8 Flight Experience" is a modified version of a real simulator used by Japan Airlines for pilot training. Visitors can enjoy three courses with a real flight experience: the Shizuoka course from the 1st to the 10th of each month, the Fukushima course from the 11th to the 20th, and the Tokyo round-trip course from the 21st to the end of the month. Also, on the second floor of the Experience Hall, visitors can experience a flight experience close to the real thing with a new simulator. If you are looking for something more authentic, why not give this a try as well?
How was it?
There are many things for adults to enjoy, and you can have fun with your family, friends, or even by yourself.
There is also a library where you can browse through airline-related materials and picture books for children.
The museum also sells a wide variety of goods that are unique to the Aviation Museum, and you may find yourself reaching for one of them. How about buying an unusual souvenir to commemorate your visit to the Aviation Museum? We hope you will experience airplanes in all their various forms.
