Ota-ku, Tokyo is home to Haneda Airport. JR East Travel Service Center staff visited the recently opened "Ota International Center (a.k.a. Minto Ota)"! We learned about the activities of the CIRs and Ota Ambassadors at the center, which is a place for all foreigners and Japanese to gather and interact with each other. Starting from the next issue, we would like to tell you about the charms of Ota City from a foreigner's point of view!

Ota International Center (aka Minto Ota) opened!

The Ota International Center (commonly known as "Minto Ota") was established on April 11, 2022 to promote international exchange and multicultural activities in an integrated manner.
The facility has a "Multilingual Consultation Desk" where foreign residents of Ota Ward can consult with foreign residents about their daily lives in various languages, a "Meeting Room" where international exchange groups can hold Japanese language classes, and an "Information and Exchange Corner" where information from various countries and regions is posted and where users can interact with each other.
The facility also houses the functions of the International City Ota Association and the International City and Multiculturalism Promotion Division.

The nickname "Minto Ota Minto Ota" is a combination of the wish "with everyone (from all over the world)" and the English words "Multicultural and International Network, Together in Ota", which means "together in Ota City, a multicultural international network". The "Minto Ota" blends "Minto Ota" with "Minto Ota" to promote "a city where diverse cultures are shared and everyone can play an active role"!

CIRs serve as bridges between foreigners and Japanese, and perform a wide variety of tasks. In addition to interpretation and translation, CIRs visit schools in Ota Ward, participate in workshops, work at local events, and engage in a wide range of media activities.

They appoint foreign nationals living in Ota City as "International City Ota Ambassadors" (nicknamed "Cool OTA-KU Ambassador") to promote the charms of Ota City to the rest of the world! The ambassadors actively promote Ota City's attractions and information in the fields of international exchange, multiculturalism, tourism, culture, sports, industry, education, etc., as well as their own culture and exchange activities with Ota City residents.
