A 20-minute drive from Toyama Station to the suburbs. Hikami Kagetsudo, located in the Furusawa district of Toyama City, is a popular local wagashi store. Recently, the owner's mastery of fresh confections has been introduced on a TV program, and the wagashi from Hikami Kagetsudo were featured on the jacket of a song by Tokyo Incidents, the band that sang the theme song for a TV drama set in a long-established Japanese confectionary store. While respecting the tradition of wagashi that has been passed down from generation to generation, Hikami Kagetsudo offers products that allow those of us living in the modern age to appreciate the charm and fun of wagashi.
The company was founded in the Taisho era (1912-1926) as "Hikami Confectionary Shop" near Fushiki Port in Takaoka City, and around 1960 took the name "Hikami Kagetsudo" from the famous confectionary "Minato Tsuki" at that time. After relocating the "Fushiki Store" to the current location, our representative confectionary "Manyo no Umeen" won the President's Award at the National Confectionary Exposition, and in the 2000s, we opened a second store in Imizu City and became the first confectionary in the three Hokuriku prefectures to be certified under the "Select - Wagashi Shokunin" Japanese confectionary artisan certification system.

In 2017, the Furusawa Honten opened as a new head office with a workshop.
The eye-catching brick wallpaper is a landmark.
Inside the store with a relaxed atmosphere, you will find a wide variety of confections, from standard confections to seasonal sweets and recommended products. The "Manyo no Umeen," a famous confectionary in Ecchu named after a poem in the Manyoshu (The Anthology of Myriad Leaves), is made with soft, honey-sweetened Japanese Kojo plums, homemade white bean paste made from Hokkaido white beans, and Hokuriku-made gyuhi (rice cake flour). The "An Donut" next to it is an item made by the owner, who loves old fashioned type donuts, combined with the store's signature homemade red bean paste, and is popular among adults and children of all ages. The "Ecchu-Toyama Yakuzen Sablet," named after the medicinal city of Toyama, is kneaded with sesame, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and cardamom and baked with Toyama rice and wheat flours.

Other items include "Yogoto," a Japanese baked cake, "Mizu-manju," made with a mouthwatering dough using kudzu and agar, and "Luxury Okowa," made with only the prefecture's high-quality "Shindaisho" rice and combined with black soybeans and large chestnuts.
Hikami Kogetsudo also offers a service to make fresh confections to order. The lovely sweets made to order are a must-see! The store sometimes stops accepting orders when there are many orders or when the owner is busy... When we checked the official website earlier, the store had temporarily stopped accepting orders, so look forward to waiting for the resumption of accepting orders.
A video of the store's production was playing on a large monitor inside the store!
The "strawberry rice cake," the most popular seasonal confectionery, is sold only from December to April, so I could not purchase it this time. Hikami Kagetsudo's shaved ice with homemade syrup is also popular, so I would like to visit again in a different season! Please note that if you visit in the late afternoon, the store may close early because the products are sold out. If you are a fan of Japanese sweets, why not pay a visit?
