Shiroishi Castle is conveniently located on a small hill in front of Shiroishi Station on the Tohoku Main Line. After the Battle of Sekigahara, the castle was the residence of the Katakura clan, the chief vassal of the Date family, for more than 260 years until the Meiji Restoration. Although the castle was once demolished, it was reconstructed in 1995 as a wooden structure in memory of Katakura Kojuro Keisuna, who was famous as Date Masamune's one hand man. The snow-covered castle tower and the cherry blossoms are a beautiful sight and a place of relaxation for the citizens of the city. The view of the Zao mountain range from the castle is also breathtaking.
