Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture boasts more than 90% share of the domestic production of eyeglass frames and is one of the world's three largest eyeglass production areas. The road leading from JR Sabae Station is called "Megane Street" because of the many eyeglass-related features that can be seen along the sidewalk. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from Sabae Station, looking for hidden glasses along the way. At the end of Megane Street is the Megane Museum, which we will introduce here.
Inside the Megane Museum, you will find the Megane Museum, where you can learn about the history and charm of over 100 years of eyeglass manufacturing; the Megane Shop, an antenna store that displays and sells over 3,000 of the latest and most popular frames manufactured by about 50 companies in Fukui Prefecture; and a hands-on workshop where you can enjoy making your own eyeglasses.
