Toyama's specialty "shiroebi" is a small shrimp with clear pink flesh, which is widely found in the seas around Japan, but only in Toyama Bay can it be caught enough to make fishing viable. Because of its mysterious appearance, it is also called "the jewel of Toyama Bay. Sashimi is the best way to enjoy the refined sweetness and texture of white shrimp meat, but ordering a set meal or a bowl of rice topped with sashimi of white shrimp will usually cost around 1,500 to 2,000 yen per meal. Here are some local burgers that offer a more convenient way to enjoy white shrimp!

After exiting the Kosugi IC of the Hokuriku Expressway, it takes about 15 minutes to drive toward Shinminato. At "Roadside Station Camon Park Shinminato," located near National Route 8, you will find a wide variety of food-related spaces, including a restaurant where you can enjoy a variety of menus featuring seafood, a cafeteria where noodles and rice bowls are popular, and a souvenir corner. Among these, the fast food corner is where you can purchase the local burgers introduced here! A sign placed just inside the roadside station introduced three major original burgers: the No. 1 popular "Shiroebi Burger," the revolutionary "Shiroebi Burger Wasabi Flavor" in its 10th year, and the "Shiho-chan Burger" available only during spring. What is Shiho-chan? You may wonder, "Shiho-chan" comes from "shi" of white shrimp and "ho" of firefly squid. I was curious to know what kind of taste it would have, but this time I chose the standard "White Shrimp Burger! I quickly placed my order at the ticket machine.
Here is the "White Shrimp Burger! The burger is thicker than you might imagine, with crispy white shrimp kakiage (deep-fried shrimp) sandwiched between a fluffy bun. The savory kakiage goes well with the special tartar sauce. Since I ordered the set, it came with a drink, fries, and onion rings, but to be honest, I was quite full from the burger alone. You can eat it right there, but on a nice day, I recommend taking it out and eating it outside.
Shinminato Shokudo, located right next to the fast food corner, also uses a ticket machine to order. According to the popularity ranking posted next to the ticket machine, the No. 1 item here is the "Shiroebi Kakiage Udon" (white shrimp udon noodle with deep-fried tofu).

In the souvenir corner, you can find a wide variety of souvenirs unique to Toyama Prefecture, including a variety of white shrimp-related products, firefly squid (which is in season now), trout sushi (a Toyama specialty), and products only available at Shinminato Roadside Station. There is a large selection of products here alone, so be sure to take a look after your meal.
