Yamanakaza Theater is located in Yamanaka Onsen, one of the Kaga Onsen Hot Spring Villages, and is attached to Kikunoyu (women's bath), a public bathhouse. It is a theater with a capacity of 180 people where you can enjoy Yamanaka-bushi singing and geiko dancing. The interior of the theater was created by a total of 1,500 Yamanaka lacquerware craftsmen. The building is worth seeing for its elegant and sophisticated design with lacquered pillars, lattice door style walls, and maki-e ceiling.
Inside the building, there are shamisen and taiko drums, an exhibition of items related to Mitsuko Mori, honorary director of Yamanakaza, and outside, a footbath and a hot spring egg-boiling area, making it a very interesting place for visitors to Yamanaka Onsen. At the egg-boiling place, local people came to boil eggs from early in the morning.
Every Saturday, Sunday, and national holidays, visitors can watch traditional performing arts, including the Yamanaka-bushi Four Seasons Dance performed by geiko (for a fee). Some of the performances allow guests to participate, and after the performance, they can take pictures with the geiko. It will be a great memory of your stay in Yamanaka Onsen, so please stop by.
