Kanazawa currently produces 99% of all gold leaf in Japan. The Foil Takkikan was renovated on April 20, 2018. It is one of the largest hands-on gold leaf comprehensive museum facilities in Japan, combining everything from learning about gold leaf, a gold leaf pasting experience, a café with gold leaf soft serve ice cream, gallery tours, and shopping. The gold leaf application experience is offered at the main store and at the Higashi Chaya-gai store. This is a rare experience, so why not make your own original craftwork when you visit Kanazawa?

*The gold leaf pasting experience requires advance reservations.

Transferring the foil. Thin gold leaf is spread neatly on the board. This work is so delicate that a slight puff of air is enough to send it flying away.
It is said that gold that is only one-third the size of a 10-yen coin is stretched to the size of a tatami mat!

The store on the left side of the entrance sells various kinds of gold leaf crafts such as cosmetics, chopsticks, sake, and foods made with gold leaf. There is also a store in the souvenir shop "Anto" inside Kanazawa Station that carries some of the products, so you may want to buy some more!â
I knew nothing about gold leaf, so I am glad that I was able to learn a lot about how it is made by visiting the Foil Museum this time. If you want to know more about gold leaf in its entirety, please visit the museum! If you want to know all about gold leaf, please visit the Foil Museum.
