The 10-km "Mahoroba Greenway" stretches from JR Takahata Station to Lake Hirusawa, and was developed on the former site of the Yamagata Kotsu Takahata Line, which was discontinued in 1974. In spring, approximately 700 cherry trees bloom along the Mahoroba Greenway, making it an ideal place for cycling and strolling. Cycling while gazing at the cherry blossoms in full bloom and the Iide mountain range with snow still on the ground is an exhilarating experience!

Old Takabatake Station and its rolling stock

Departing from JR Takahata Station, follow the greenway of Shimahoroba and you will arrive at the former Takahata Station, which used to be a station on the Yamagata Kotsu Takahata Line. The station building was built in the early Showa period using "Takabatakeishi" mined from Uriwari Ishiniwa Park. Visitors can enjoy cherry blossoms such as Someiyono, Shidare-zakura (weeping cherry), and Edohigan-zakura (higan cherry) on the grounds, and can also see the train cars that were running at that time! There are also benches, so it is just right for taking a break from cycling♪

Divine scenery that makes you want to worship

After leaving the old Takabatake Station on the Yamagata Kotsu Takabatake Line, the destination is "Yasukutsu Hachiman Shrine. The three-story pagoda, designated as a prefectural tangible cultural property, is the landmark. From the shrine to the adjacent "Mahoroba Inishi-no-Sato Historical Park", where cherry blossoms are in bloom, a leisurely stroll seems like a good idea. There is also an ancient burial mound in the park. Across the road is Michi no Eki Takahata Mahoroba Station. How about some seasonal fresh vegetables from the local area and local specialty products of Takahata as souvenirs! Of course, there is also a restaurant!
