Miharu Waterfall Cherry Blossom

Miharu Takizakura, one of Japan's three most famous cherry trees, is also known as the red weeping cherry tree.

The Miharu Waterfall Cherry Blossom, one of the three most famous cherry trees in Japan, was the first cherry tree to be designated as a national natural monument in 1922, and celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2022. The weeping cherry tree, said to be over 1,000 years old, is a 13.5-meter tall giant, with pink blossoms that touch the ground from its branches that stretch out in all directions. When in full bloom, it looks like a cascading waterfall, hence the name "takizakura" (waterfall cherry tree).
The three most famous cherry trees in Japan are: Neotani Awamokuzakura (Motosu City, Gifu Prefecture), Yamataka Jindaizakura (Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture), and Miharu Takizakura (Miharu Fall Cherry Blossom).
