The charms of "THE ONSEN"!

One of the most enjoyable aspects of travel is the local cuisine, the spectacular scenery that changes with the seasons, and of course, the hot springs! Did you know that there are many hot springs in eastern Japan that are called "ji-onsen," or "local hot springs," and have been loved by local people for a long time? Once used as therapeutic hot spring baths, and even today there are many hot spring resorts that continue to heal people. We will introduce the charms of "local hot springs" that warm the body and soul in the form of an interview!

What is "Yumori"?

The word "yumori" means "guardian of hot spring water. In other words, a "yumori" is a caretaker of a hot spring. They are in charge of controlling the amount and temperature of the hot water. The traditional hot spring baths that have taken root in each area and are the pride of the yumori of the "local hot springs" introduced in this project have been protected by them throughout their long history.

The third inn we will introduce is Takayu Onsen Ryokan Tamagoyu, a 30-minute drive from Fukushima Station and within easy reach of the Bandai-Asahi National Park for a nature walk. We spoke with Mr. Goto, the innkeeper.

"We are proud of our open-air rock bath and the Tamagoyu, which has a history of more than 150 years. We hope you will forget about time and relax at Ryokan Tamago-yu, which preserves the atmosphere of a former therapeutic bathhouse and is surrounded by the great nature of Agatsuma."

The open-air rock bath "Tenkei no Yu" is surrounded by nature. You will be able to directly feel the beauty of nature that varies from season to season! Why don't you soak in the hot spring, a blessing of the earth, and take a deep breath with all your might?

You can also enjoy a footbath at Ryokan Tamagoyu.

Takayu Onsen, the source of the hot spring at Ryokan Tamagoyu, is also known as a hot spring that advertises its onsen as "fountainhead free-flowing hot-spring water.
By the way, do you know what "onsen kake nagashi" means? There are different types of "kake-nagashi" that you often hear about in hot spring resorts, such as "partially circulating" kake-nagashi or "adding water and heating" kake-nagashi, but at Takayu Onsen, the water drawn from the source is not modified in any way and flows into the bathtubs at each facility. This means that you can enjoy the full benefits of the natural hot spring water.

"I would recommend the thatched-roof bathhouse "Tamakoyu". It has been around since the establishment of the bathhouse and still retains the atmosphere of a former therapeutic bathhouse."

The bathhouse, which still retains the atmosphere of the time when it was founded in 1868, and the hot water that has been gushing for more than 150 years. You can feel the history of Ryokan Tamakoyu and the blessings of nature in Fukushima, making it an attractive place to visit when you go to Ryokan Tamakoyu.

Feel the great nature of Agatsuma in the garden open-air bath

Takayu Onsen is covered in snow for half of the year. Please tell us about the unique charms of summer and how you recommend spending it.

The vivid green of the trees in the fresh green and summer seasons is beautiful, but the winter scenery covered with thick snow is also atmospheric and charming. No matter what season you visit, you will be able to feel the beauty of nature in each of the four seasons.
