Morioka City's Takamatsu Park has become a place of recreation and relaxation for citizens in all four seasons, with its rows of cherry trees selected as one of the 100 best cherry blossom viewing spots in Japan in 1989, boating in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and swans in winter.
Morioka City's Takamatsu Park is the only place in Iwate Prefecture selected as one of the "100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan," along with Kitakami City's Jenshoji. Every year, during the cherry blossom season from late April to early May, a "Cherry Blossom Festival" is held, attracting many cherry blossom viewers.
Takamatsu Pond is famous for being a winter stopover for many swans, with over 200 swans flying in during the peak season in January, and they overwinter until around April. The 1.4-km-long promenade is a recreational area for citizens, who can enjoy strolling, jogging, bird-watching, and photography.
There is also a boat launch on the south shore of the pond, where visitors can enjoy boating from spring to fall on hand-pulled boats and swan boats. During the cherry blossom season, visitors can also enjoy sightseeing boats. On the north side of the pond, there is a fishing pond called "Shisuien" where visitors can enjoy carp and Herabuna fishing from April to November. (fee required).
