Cow that brings good luck

Akabeko is a traditional toy from the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture. The "beko" in akabeko means cow in the local dialect, and the red color is said to ward off evil spirits. Since then, it is said that black spots representing smallpox have been written on Akabeko dolls to pray for good health.
The rounded silhouette and indescribable expression on its face as it continuously shakes its head is adorable to look at. You can try your hand at painting such akabeko as you like, and make your own original akabeko as a souvenir!
