Shukubo (lodging house) Konkombo
This time, we would like to introduce you to a shukubo (a lodging house) that you should definitely stop by when you visit Zenkoji Temple, a national treasure located in Nagano City!

Shukubo" at Zenkoji Temple

Shukubo are lodging facilities originally built for temple monks and worshippers.
Nowadays, there are many facilities where the general public can easily stay overnight.
Zenkoji Temple has a total of 39 shukubo.
Zenkoji Temple is a nondenominational temple, but it is protected by two temples, the Daihongan of the Jodo sect and the Daikanjin of the Tendai sect.
Shukubo are also divided into two sects, Jodo and Tendai. Shukubo with "bo" are of the Jodo sect, while those with "in" are of the Tendai sect.
The elder brother's shukubo introduced here is a Jodo sect shukubo.
Each lodge offers lodging, meals, and Buddhist memorial services.
At Eibeibo, sutra chanting is also available, which is an experience that can only be had at a shukubo!

Enjoy vegetarian cuisine at Shukubo

At Anibubo, you can enjoy "vegetarian cuisine," which does not contain meat or fish.
You can enjoy dishes made from seasonal vegetables, seaweed, and grains.
Shojin ryori (vegetarian cuisine) was created in order to avoid "killing" and "troublesome" stimuli.
In Buddhism, the word "shojin" means "single-minded practice," and shojin ryori is a form of ascetic training.
