Tsuruga City in Fukui Prefecture prospered as an international city from the Meiji Era to the early Showa Era, connecting to Europe via Russia. The Tsuruga Red Brick Warehouses, which stand side by side on the east side of Tsuruga Port, are a symbol of this prosperity and one of the most famous brick buildings in Fukui Prefecture. In recent years, it was also used as a kelp storage facility.
In October 2015, the north wing was renovated into the "Diorama Pavilion," which combines historical facts and entertainment with a "railroad and port diorama" reproducing the streets of Tsuruga from the late Meiji period to the early Showa period, and the south wing was renovated into the "Restaurant Pavilion," serving Tsuruga's mountain and marine products with the concept of "sea, port and internationality" in reference to its history as a port town. The south wing was renovated into the "Restaurant Pavilion," which offers a wide variety of Tsuruga's seafood! It has been reborn as a new tourist facility where visitors can enjoy history, culture, and food. In addition to the red brick warehouse, there are other active warehouses in the Tsuruga Port area with a Showa-era retro atmosphere.

Model trains, self-propelled boats, and cars are running around and around.
Other retro spots in the Tsuruga Port area include the former Tsuruga Port Station (Tsuruga Railway Museum), the Tsuruga Museum, and a lamp hut, all of which are within walking distance of each other! If you go a little further, you can visit popular power spots such as Kanazakimiya Shrine and Kibi Jingu Shrine. If you get tired of walking, you can take a bus or share a bicycle.
