Chilly days continue and it is almost time for winter to be in full swing... Today, I would like to go back a little further in the season and introduce an exquisite sweet from Hida Takayama using the delicious autumn taste, chestnuts!

Recently, there have been an increasing number of high-end Mont Blanc specialty stores all over Japan, including stores where you can enjoy freshly squeezed Mont Blanc right in front of your eyes. Even so, it is hard to find such a long and horizontal Mont Blanc anywhere else. At the "Ena Kawakamiya Takayama Hanareki-Ten" introduced here, you can taste an unusual type of Mont Blanc that is over 30 centimeters long.

Inside the store
Ena Kawakamiya, headquartered in Ena City, has been working with producers to refine the taste, improve the quality, and brand Ena chestnuts, with the goal of making Ena the best chestnut village in Japan. Each store sells Japanese and Western confections made from numerous Gifu Prefecture ingredients, including the regional brand "Super Special Ena Chestnuts. Among these, the Takayama Mont Blanc is offered only at the Takayama Hanarekuten store in Takayama!

Four different tastes are interesting.
The last one is served with a sprinkle of salt!
It is covered with chestnut paste as if bridging three mountains, and the first thing that strikes you is its appearance. It is said to be inspired by the mountains of the Northern Alps. Starting from the mountain on the right, fresh cream, crème de cassis, and hazelnut cream are prepared, and pie and meringue are also spread on the base. The top is smooth cream and the bottom is crunchy, so you can alternate between the three different flavors without getting bored. A sprinkle of the accompanying "snow salt" changes the taste even more, giving it a different flavor. Personally, I found the combination of the richness of chestnut and blackcurrant fresh!
Taste comparison set
For chestnut lovers, we also recommend the "Taste Comparison Set. You can actually compare the sweets sold at the store and buy the ones you like as souvenirs right there and then. The lineup of souvenirs is quite extensive. Located halfway between Takayama Station and the old town, if you are interested, please stop by!
