Iwanori Onigiri (Kappou Ajisaku)

Murakami's gourmet food is well known by those in the know!

Murakami City in Niigata Prefecture is home to nationally famous gourmet foods such as salmon and Murakami beef. In this issue, we will introduce some hidden gourmet foods in Murakami recommended by locals.

The first is "iwanori onigiri".

When you think of onigiri, you probably imagine onigiri wrapped in dried laver, but iwanori onigiri are made with locally harvested iwanori seaweed. The iwanori is coated with a slightly sweet soy sauce and wrapped in aluminum foil to steam it, and when opened, the aroma of the iwanori spreads to whet your appetite. As for the contents, which are of interest, for some reason, they are cod roe no matter where you eat them.

The second is "Yakisoba with Sauce on the Back

Yakisoba with Sauce on Top (Chinese Cuisine Fukuraiken)

As the name suggests, this is yakisoba with sauce poured over the noodles afterwards, allowing you to enjoy the original sauce flavor without heating the sauce. Since you season the yakisoba yourself, you can add your own flavor to it, such as adding raayu (Chinese chili oil) or vinegar.
