Ice Art in an Unexplored Area

Onouchi Valley, located near the border between Saitama and Gunma Prefectures on Route 299, is designated as a special area in the West Chichibu Nature Park. Nearby is Japan's largest native Setsubunsou and Mt. Ryoujin, one of Japan's 100 most famous mountains. Onouchi Hyobashira" are artificially created by drawing a 500-meter-long pipe from the Onouchisawa stream, which originates from Ryogamiyama. The giant icicles, which can be seen from the suspension bridge, are a sight to behold and have become one of Ogano's most popular winter tourist attractions.

The lighting up of the ice poles is also popular, allowing visitors to enjoy the mystical world of ice. During the festival, local people open stalls to sell amazake (sweet sake) and other local delicacies to warm you up after the cold of viewing the icicles.
