Introduction to Takayama Station
Did you know that Takayama Station completed renovation work in the fall of 2016 and is now a new station building?
The station was built as a bridge station (a railroad station where station functions are concentrated on the upper floor of the platform), and a new free passageway connecting the east and west sides of the station was built. The interior of the station is made of Hida cypress to express "Hida Takayama, the Land of Trees", and the exterior walls are decorated with lattice panels in the motif of a townhouse, creating a relaxing atmosphere.
East-west free passage (Takumi-dori)
The new east-west free passageway is named "Takumi Street" and, as the name suggests, is based on the theme of the Takayama Festival, which is representative of Hida Takayama.
The lower sections of two different types of festival floats, each with a different structure, are displayed in full scale, as well as wheels, ornaments, and carpentry tools that were actually used in the festival!
You can enjoy the atmosphere of Takayama just by walking along this Takumi Street👍

When you get off the Takumi Street on the 2nd floor of Takayama Station toward Norikura-guchi (East Exit), you will immediately see the Hida Takayama Tourist Information Center, where you can ask about sightseeing in Takayama! If you have large luggage, please use the coin lockers located on the first floor of the Norikura Exit (East Exit)! There are large coin lockers that can hold large carry-on bags, so don't worry!
