Murakami City in Niigata Prefecture has loved, protected, and nurtured salmon.
In the Miomotegawa River that runs through Murakami City, salmon come up to spawn in the fall. In order to catch the salmon, a fence called "Urai" is set up across the entire width of the river.

This is called a "urai.
In addition to the traditional "IGURIAMI fishing," there is "URAI fishing," in which salmon run upstream in batches using "URAI" set up along the entire width of the river at its mouth and salmon are caught in "OTOSHI fences" set up on both sides of the river.

Tenkara is the name of the fishing method.
