The route with a view of the splendid shrine pavilions

Jyoshin Electric Railway, which connects Takasaki to Shimonita, has Jyoshu-Tomioka Station, which is home to the Tomioka Silk Mill, an undisputed World Heritage site. When traveling by Jyoshin Electric Railway, be sure to stop by Jyoshu Ichinomiya Station as well.
As the name suggests, Ichinomiya Nukumae Shrine is located here, and it is only a 15-minute walk from the station.
The route to the shrine is very unusual: after climbing the stairs to the first torii gate, pass through the main gate and go down the approach to the main shrine building, which is called "kudarimiya" or "descending shrine. The shrine pavilions were built in the Edo period by the 3rd Shogun Tokugawa Iemitsu and the 5th Shogun Tsunayoshi, and the main shrine, worship hall, and tower gate are designated as Important Cultural Properties, and are of magnificent construction.
