Lake Okutama, located in Okutama-cho, Nishitama-gun, Tokyo, is an artificial lake created by the Ogouchi Dam completed in 1957. The lake is well known as an oasis in the Tokyo metropolitan area, with its 45.4-km circumference and varied landscape. As a valuable source of water for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the lake has a total storage capacity of 180 million tons and supplies approximately 20% of the water used by the citizens of Tokyo. The lake's surface, reflecting the trees and surrounding mountain ridges, is quiet, and the cherry blossoms, fresh greenery, autumn leaves, and winter scenery are vividly displayed throughout the four seasons.
