Toide Gelato, a locally produced sweet near a retro wooden station building that retains the atmosphere of the Meiji era.

Toide Station on the JR Jobata Line was built as the earliest station building of the Chuetsu Railway in Toyama Prefecture. In 1920, the station became a station on the Chuetsu Line of the Ministry of Railways (Japanese National Railways), and in 1942, it was renamed the Jobata Line, which became JR West's Jobata Line when the Japanese National Railways was divided and privatized. Along with Fukuno Station on the same Johata Line, it is said to be the oldest existing station on the Sea of Japan coast south of Akita Prefecture.
Toide Gelato is located right in front of Toide Station. It is also the tourist information center for Toide Town and a popular local specialty store for gelato and macaroons. Toide Gelato offers a wide variety of flavors based on milk gelato using freshly squeezed raw milk directly from Clover Farm in Takaoka City, as well as salt from Toyama Bay, seasonal fruits, and other local ingredients.
On this particular day, I chose the most popular fresh milk and Anno sweet potato from Fukuoka, Takaoka City. The milk was refreshing and gentle rather than rich. The Anno sweet potato had a slightly sticky sweetness, but was surprisingly refreshing. If you order a double cup, you get a cup full of the first flavor, then another flavor on top of that, plus a little something extra: another flavor and a small cone, so it's quite a big portion. (The extra on this particular day was chocolate mint!) ) Even if you order with a cone, they heap it up so much that it almost spills over, and you can even add additional macarons as toppings.
When we went there in the evening, there were only a few left...
The macaroons look delicious too!
Personally, I like the pistachio and the seasonal Toyama pear sorbet, but unfortunately they were already sold out when I went there after 4:00 p.m. I will come back a little earlier next time! There is an eat-in space inside the store, but there are also benches outside, so on a nice day, please enjoy the food while admiring the retro wooden Toei station building.
