Oarai Isomae Shrine was founded in the Heian period (794-1185). Located on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the beautifully carved shrine pavilion is designated as a prefectural cultural asset. In front of the Isomae Shrine, where the deities Ohonamuchi no Mikoto and Sunahikona no Mikoto are said to have descended, stands the "Torii of the Divine Rock" on top of a rock. This is truly a spectacular spot! Many people visit here to catch a glimpse of the view.

Scenery changes with the time of day

The torii gate looks as if it is floating in the whitecaps of the waves crashing against the rock wall, or its silhouette emerges as the sun rises. Depending on the sea conditions on any given day, the torii gateway will show you a variety of expressions, making it hard to stop taking pictures! It is breathtakingly beautiful.
If there are whitecaps, you can even take a picture that looks like a sea of clouds...! You are sure to take your favorite picture!
