What is the "Beaver", a staple snack in Kanazawa?

Have you heard of "Beaver", which has been loved by Ishikawa residents for more than 50 years since its birth in 1970? It is an extremely simple snack made of Hokuriku glutinous rice and dough kneaded with Hidaka kelp, deep-fried at high temperature to a crispy arare (a kind of rice cracker), and flavored with Naruto salt. The saltiness and the flavor of the kelp enhance the taste of the beaver, and no matter how much you eat, you will never get tired of the taste.
The company that originally produced them went bankrupt, and for a time the Beaver was inedible, but Hokuriku Confectionery, which has a history of nearly 100 years, has taken over the recipe and revived it!
In addition to the standard salt flavor, the "Shiroebi Beaver," which became very popular after being introduced by NBA player Yamura, and the "Curry Beaver," which has a spicy curry flavor and the delicious taste of kelp that lingers in the mouth, are also popular.
Another flavor, "Nodoguro Beaver," has been revived after its production was suspended due to the production not being able to keep up with the beaver after the beaver was reported in 2019. The flavor of nodoguro, the king of white fish, and the acidity of the vinegared fruit make an excellent match! We hope you will try to conquer all the varieties. You can buy them at Kanazawa Station, so why not buy some as souvenirs?
