Sendai Castle Ruins

Sendai Castle was built in 1610 by Masamune Date, the first feudal lord of Sendai, a warlord famous for his Dokuganryu (a Japanese samurai dragon). Selected as one of the 100 best castles in Japan, it is a sightseeing spot that should not be missed when visiting Sendai! The castle was built at an elevation of 130 m above sea level on a natural site with cliffs to the east and south. It is said that the castle tower was not built to show the shogun, Ieyasu Tokugawa, that the castle was not hostile to him.

Although the castle has sadly been lost, the beautiful stonewalls and reconstructed side turrets provide an atmospheric view of the castle, and the statue of Lord Masamune's cavalryman provides a panoramic view of the city of Sendai!
If you want to learn more about the history of Sendai Castle, why not visit the "Mimonkan" where valuable materials are on display? In addition, you can see a CG reconstruction of Sendai Castle at the "Material Exhibition Hall".

The ruins of Sendai Castle, located on a hill up the hill, is a popular night view spot from which the city can be seen at a glance! Please be sure to enjoy the view of the city at night, along with the illuminated statue of Lord Masamune riding a horse, which still watches over the city today.
