What is her life?

This is Ron Mueck's huge sculpture "Standing Woman. She is approximately 4 meters tall! Her height, coupled with her somber appearance, is sure to overwhelm. Even if you look into her face and wonder what she is staring at, you will not be able to make eye contact with her. It makes you wonder what is reflected beyond the line of sight directed at the window. Also, her appearance, illuminated by the natural light shining into the exhibition room, differs depending on the angle and time of day you look at her. Please take your time to face her and think about her life and story.

A Town of Art, a Whole Street is an Art Museum

Towada Art Museum

Towada City is developing a variety of artworks by turning the entire Kanchogaidori Avenue into a single art museum as part of its "Arts Towada" program, a community development project centered on art. One of them is the Museum of Contemporary Art Towada, where "Standing Woman" is also exhibited. The permanent exhibition features works by world-renowned artists such as Yayoi Kusama and Ron Mueck.

The museum is also unique to Towada City. Each of the exhibition spaces has a large glass opening that makes it look as if the artwork is being displayed facing the town. This is a feature that can only be found in an "art town!

Please visit Towada City, a "City of Art" overflowing with individuality.
