Spring is the time for cherry blossom viewing, isn't it?
There are several cherry blossom viewing spots in Niigata City, the heart of Niigata Prefecture. Among them, we would like to introduce "Shinanogawa Yasuragi-cho Green Area" easily accessible by bus from Niigata Station, "Hakusan Shrine (Hakusan Park)" crowded with spring festivals and cherry blossoms, and "Toriyano Lagoon" with its lake area in full bloom.

The "Shinanogawa Yasuragi-Dome Green Space," a cherry blossom viewing spot nicknamed "Yasuragi-Dome" by locals, is a gently sloping embankment, and someiyoshino cherry trees and tulips bloom beautifully in the green space maintained in tandem with the Shinanogawa River! In addition, you can see cherry blossoms along the riverside from the Shinano River Water Shuttle, a water bus that operates along the Shinano River, or you can bring snacks and enjoy viewing cherry blossoms along the riverside after strolling in Bandai and Furumachi areas, making "Yasuragi Cho" a hanami spot full of attractions♪

Yasuragi-dori is also a wonderful place to view cherry blossoms at night, and you can enjoy a different atmosphere than during the day. The Bandai-bashi Bridge, a nationally designated important cultural property spanning the Shinano River, and the Shinano River Yasuragi-hoto green area, where you can enjoy the night view of Niigata City and the night cherry blossoms, are popular Hanami spots for many visitors.

Hakusan Shrine (Hakusan Park), the general guardian of Niigata, and cherry blossoms in the hanging garden

Hakusan Shrine is located in the center of Niigata City and has a history of more than 1,000 years as the guardian of Niigata.
Hakusan-sama, the deity of Hakusan Shrine, has the power to "tie" people together, and is believed to bring good luck in such areas as "match-making," "family safety," and "increased financial fortune. The area from Hakusan Shrine to Hakusan Park, including the area around Kenmin Kaikan and Ryutopia, and Yasuragi-dome is known as one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in Niigata City, and the cherry blossoms in full bloom are breathtakingly beautiful. Many stalls will be set up during the Spring Festival, and visitors are encouraged to try Niigata's famous "poppo-yaki" (fried food with a "poppo-yaki" filling).

Hakusan Park Hanging Garden, connected to Hakusan Shrine (Hakusan Park), is a park with six hanging gardens, waterways, ponds, and waterfalls. At night, the trees are lit up and nighttime cherry blossom viewing can be enjoyed.

Niigata Prefecture Toriyano Lagoon Park

Located about 2 km from JR Niigata Station, TOYANOGARATA is a prefectural park consisting of three areas: "Onaike Area", "Shumoku Area", and "Niigata Sports Park", where visitors can enjoy cherry blossom viewing with their own attractions.
The park has about 300 cherry trees in the Meike area, about 700 in the Shumoku area, and about 500 in the sports park, making a total of about 1,500 cherry trees in bloom in these three areas.

Let's go to Niigata Prefectural Toriyano Lagoon Park!

In the "Meike" area, there is a row of cherry trees surrounding the lakeside of Toryanogata Lagoon on the side of the prefectural library, and the cherry blossoms color the lakeside gorgeously. A little further on, there is an observatory from which you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Toryano Lagoon, as well as a free space called "Mizube-no-hiroba" with its expanse of lawn, making this an area where visitors can enjoy a walk while viewing cherry blossoms.

In the Kanegi area, yaezakura cherry trees bloom when someiyoshino cherry trees are out of season, allowing visitors to enjoy hanami for the second time. As you proceed through the park, you will find the "Hanami Plaza," where you can spread out your lunch box and enjoy hanami under the cherry blossoms as far as the eye can see. There is also a Japanese garden called "Iyashi no Teien" where you can enjoy the scenery of the four seasons, a plaza, and various other facilities, so a stroll along the park path is recommended.

In the "Sports Park," cherry blossoms bloom near the Nagata-no-mori (playground equipment square) and the multipurpose lawn, and visitors can enjoy as many as 15 different varieties of cherry trees. This is a hanami spot where you can spend your time not only viewing cherry blossoms, but also strolling around the park, enjoying the scenery and exercising on the lawn.
