On-yado Kei, a hot spring resort in Ashigarashita-gun, Japan

On the other hand, spending time in a relaxing Japanese hot spring resort is another attraction of the Kanagawa and Yokohama area. Yugawara Onsen "On-yado Kei" is an onsen ryokan with a theme of stylish hospitality and Edo-style atmosphere. The exterior of the ryokan is reminiscent of an Edo merchant's house with black walls, and tiles are used extensively. The floor of the lobby is also covered with tiles, creating a peaceful and extraordinary space from the moment you step inside.

The hot water of Yugawara Onsen is a sodium-calcium chloride-sulfate hot spring, which is alkaline and soft on the skin. It is said to have a wide range of beneficial effects, including neuralgia, cuts, burns, skin diseases, and women's diseases. Onyado Kei has its own hot spring, so there is an abundance of hot water. You can enjoy the hot spring water in a relaxing atmosphere. The men's and women's large public baths are each equipped with an open-air bath and sauna, and private baths are also available. The ryokan aims to provide a universal design that allows the elderly, people with disabilities, and children to use the baths with peace of mind, so the bathtubs are barrier-free and equipped with handrails.

Other facilities in the inn include a table tennis room, free massages, free competitive table games, and a kids' room. You can also find old-fashioned traditional Japanese toys such as kendama, yo-yo, otedama, and daruma-doshi. There is also a photo spot for town firefighters and a mystery-solving event, making this a great facility for children. A footbath is also recommended for a short break after a lot of activity. How about soaking in the footbath while gazing at the illuminated courtyard?

Kawasaki Marien" and "Owakudani" (Owakudani Valley)

The Kanagawa/Yokohama area is also attractive for its visual contrasts, from the near-future-like artificial landscape of the industrial area, as represented by the Kawasaki Nightscape, to the spectacular scenery created by nature, which cannot be created by human hands. In this issue, we will introduce Kawasaki Marien and Owakudani, two of these areas.

Kawasaki Marien, an artificial landscape in Kawasaki City

Kawasaki Marien," located on Higashi Ogishima, is recommended if you want to enjoy man-made landscapes unique to the city center, such as the night views of Kawasaki's factories and the Kawasaki city area. The observation room on the 10th floor of the tower building is a good spot to enjoy the "Kawasaki factory night view," the pride of Kanagawa's man-made landscape. Located about 50 meters above the ground, the panoramic 360-degree unobstructed view allows you to enjoy not only the night view of Kawasaki factories, but also ships passing by on the sea, Minato Mirai, and airplanes taking off from and landing at Haneda Airport, which is adjacent to Higashi Ogishima.

The night view from the observation deck of Kawasaki Marien has been recognized as a "Japan Nightscape Heritage" because of the variety of night views that can be enjoyed. Kawasaki Marien is the only place in Kawasaki City that has received this recognition. A free telescope is also available for visitors to take their time and enjoy the view.

In the center of the observation deck, there is a diorama about 5 meters in diameter. You can look around the Port of Kawasaki and the surrounding area from the sky above and feel as if you are flying in the sky. The diorama was created using actual aerial photographs, so some visitors can look for stores and their own homes in the area.

Kawasaki Marien (official name: Kawasaki City Port Promotion Hall) is a community facility created to deepen exchanges between citizens and the port, and was named from a public competition, combining the words "marine" and "entrance" to symbolize the entrance to the world's oceans. In addition to the observation deck, there are tennis courts, beach courts, a barbecue area, and a campground on the premises, which are also used as a place for citizens to relax.

Owakudani, a spectacular view created by nature in Hakone Town

At the same time, visitors can enjoy the spectacular scenery created by nature in Kanagawa. Owakudani in Hakone Town was created by volcanic activity about 3,000 years ago, and even today it offers a mysterious landscape of white steam rising from the ground. With its rugged rock surface and distinctive scent of sulfur, it is no wonder that it was called "Hell Valley" until the Edo period (1603-1868), a mysterious spot where visitors can experience the energy of the earth through all five senses.

The best way to access Owakudani is by Hakone ropeway. It takes about 10 minutes from Sounzan Station to Owakudani Station. The ropeway operates at approximately one-minute intervals. While riding the ropeway, you will cross a 130-meter valley, and the view of the valley floor below will keep your eyes glued to the ropeway.

No visit to Owakudani is complete without trying the famous "Kuro-tamago" (black eggs). As the name suggests, "Kuro-tamago" is a boiled egg with a black shell. It is popular as a good-luck charm, as it is said that eating one will prolong one's life by seven years. You can purchase a package of four for 500 yen at the Owakudani Kuro-tamagokan (Owakudani Kuro-tamagokan), located near Owakudani Station on the Hakone Ropeway.

In addition, an objet d'art of a black egg is set up in front of the main entrance of the Owakudani Kuro-tamagokan. If you are lucky, you will be able to see Mt. Fuji, so why not commemorate your visit or take a picture with the black egg you purchased?
