Recommendations for Karahashi Chaya
There are so many delicious specialties in Akita that it is hard to decide what to eat. Kiritanpo nabe, Hinai Jidori chicken, Iburi gakko (pickled sweet potatoes), etc.... If you wish you could eat all of Akita's specialties at once, I highly recommend Karahashi Jaya. Located near Akita Station, it is an easy place to stop by before going out or returning home. The menu offers a variety of unique Akita items, and no matter which one you choose, you can enjoy the taste of Akita. Karahashi Chaya Exterior
A restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere
Karahashi Chaya has been in business for about 23 years, making it the oldest of the surrounding stores. Once inside, you will find a calm atmosphere, and the red bridge and display of sake bottles, as if in a Japanese-style garden, are eye-catching. Inside the restaurant with Japanese taste

JR East Travel Service Center staff reports on the food!
At Karahashi Jaya, you can enjoy Akita's gourmet food from lunch time. The staff of JR East Travel Service Center Akita actually visited the restaurant! If you are confused by the various menus, please refer to the menu selection♪
A very popular menu that allows you to taste Akita at once
JR East Travel Service Center staff especially recommends the "Akita no Aji Gozen" (A taste of Akita). This menu allows you to taste Akita specialties such as Kiritanpo hot pot, Inaniwa udon noodles, and Iburi Guko (pickled squid) all at once! Kiritanpo nabe is a hearty dish with many ingredients such as rooted Japanese parsley, Hinai chicken, and maitake mushrooms. The soup is made from additive-free Hinai Jidori chicken broth. The roots of kiritanpo and Japanese parsley soak up the Hinai Jidori chicken broth and are very tasty! You can taste smooth, smooth-throating Inaniwa udon noodles and iburigakko, which has an irresistible crispy texture and smoky flavor. Enjoy the taste of Akita all at once! Taste of Akita Gozen
Delightful looking rice bowl menu
Next up is the Hinai Jidori chicken oyakodon, especially recommended by the staff at Karahashi Jaya. This bowl of rice is made with eggs and meat from Hinai Jidori chicken, one of the three most delicious chickens in Japan, of which Akita is proud. The fluffy egg and savory chicken meat roasted over an open flame are exquisite, and the chopsticks won't stop moving. The large Hinai Jidori chicken tsukune on top of the rice bowl makes a big impact! This dish is recommended for rice bowl lovers who enjoy both the taste and appearance. Lunchtime drinking is also available!
Akita, a rice-producing region, offers not only gourmet food but also many delicious alcoholic beverages. At Karahashi Jaya, you can enjoy sake from lunchtime. We always have 20 kinds of Akita sake on hand, as well as a wide variety of Akita shochu. If you are not sure what to drink, we recommend the "Jizake Tasting Sake Set," which allows you to compare three different types of local sake. The sake tasting set changes with the seasons, so you will want to try it in every season! Local sake tasting set
For those who want to enjoy dinner time as well
Karahashi Jaya's dinner time menu is different from the lunch time menu. If you arrive in Akita in the evening and are not sure where to eat for dinner, or if you have been there for lunch but want to go back, please visit at night as well! Here are some of the menu items we recommend for dinner time.
A la carte dishes of Akita specialties
At night, you can order a la carte dishes. We especially recommend the Kiritanpo. There are two types: Kiritanpo Miso Dengaku, which has a savory miso flavor that spreads in your mouth, and Kiritanpo Cheese and Soy Sauce Dengaku, which is a combination of melted cheese and soy sauce. The Kiritanpo Cheese and Soy Sauce Dengaku is a dish that offers a different taste and texture from the soup soaked Kiritanpo in the hot pot. Two kinds of Kiritanpo
Night time only menu
In addition to a la carte dishes, there is a menu available only at night. The "Four Kinds of Akita Meat Skewers," an assortment of skewers of Yuri beef, Hachimantai pork, Hinai chicken, and Hinai chicken tsukune, is a very satisfying way to enjoy Akita meat. Other dishes, such as the "Akita Meishin Set Meal," which allows you to taste other Akita Komachi, all offer a taste of Akita. If you go during dinner time, be sure to try the limited menu! Four kinds of Akita meat skewers Karahashi Chaya is the result of the staff's desire to have customers from outside of Akita Prefecture enjoy Akita's food and taste the goodness of local cuisine and Japanese food.
