The stars that fill the ceiling of the planetarium make you feel as if you are in a real night sky. Visitors can comfortably view the magnificent starry sky, which cannot be seen with the naked eye, regardless of weather conditions, and learn about seasonal constellations and the wonders of the universe in an easy-to-understand manner. The planetarium at the Funabashi City Education Center in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture, is one of the largest in the prefecture and offers a relaxing experience in a quiet atmosphere.

The planetarium is a 15-minute walk from JR Higashi-Funabashi Station. The dome is 18 meters in diameter and seats 145 people, making it one of the largest in the prefecture, and its presence is breathtaking: the images of constellations and galaxies spread across the 18-meter dome create a three-dimensional feeling and reality as if you were walking in space by combining the latest optical star systems, which number some 40 million, with digital images. There are projection programs for the general public and for children, and the first half of each program features a live commentary on the starry sky that can be seen that night. The program provides easy-to-understand explanations of star names, how to find constellations, and topical astronomical information so that visitors can enjoy the night sky even after they return home.

The dome is one of the largest in the prefecture and can project a staggering 40 million stars!

There are two types of projectors that project stars on the screen: optical projectors and digital projectors.
The optical projector can produce a planetarium with a very high degree of reproducibility, as if you are observing an astronomical event, while the digital projector allows a high degree of freedom in editing, making it possible to create unrealistic effects. The Planetarium Pavilion uses a hybrid system that combines the two, achieving both a realistic starry sky and a dynamic space.

Enjoy attractive programs this winter!

General projection days from 11/29 (Sat.) to 3/1 (Sun.) are every Saturday and Sunday and during the winter vacation period from 12/24 (Wed.) to 12/28 (Sun.). There are three different programs: "For Infants to Elementary School Students," "For Elementary School Students to General Visitors," and "For General Visitors," so that visitors can enjoy the programs according to their ages. Also, on 12/24 (Wed.) and 12/25 (Thu.), the planetarium will be showing a special program, "Touring the Stars: The Stars of Christmas," which will introduce stories about the stars related to Christmas and the starry sky that can be seen during Christmas.
