The more you see and learn about the garden, the more you are drawn to it! The remains of Echigo's most prominent wealthy farmer, where life and art come alive.
In particular, the Ito Residence, built in 1887 by the fifth generation head of the family, is a stately mansion of a wealthy farmer who flourished in Niigata during the Meiji period (1868-1912), and features many highlights of craftsmanship and materials, including a seven-story beam and a 30-m-long round girder.
The hall wing is a huge shoin-style building with an area of approximately 100 tatami mats. The small number of columns creates a sense of unity with the garden and an openness characteristic of modern Japanese-style architecture.
