From Fukui Station, take a 30-minute drive to "Castle in the Sky: Echizen Ono Castle. Continue east and drive along a winding mountain road for about 60 minutes. Drive about 60 minutes further east on a winding mountain road and you will arrive at the vast Lake Kuzuryu, which stretches along the upper reaches of the Kuzuryu River. Lake Kuzuryu is a vast man-made lake created when the Kuzuryu River was dammed. In autumn, which comes about half a month earlier than most other places in Hokuriku, the lake is beautifully colored with autumn leaves, and it is impossible to take one's eyes off of the reflections on the lake's surface. Lake Kuzuryu, selected as one of Japan's 100 best places for viewing autumn leaves, is ideal for a drive.

The Hakokase Bridge over Lake Kuzuryu is commonly called "Yume no Kakehashi," and the view from the bridge is wonderful not only of the autumn leaves, but also of the slightly late cherry blossoms, the fresh greenery of summer, and the wide expanse of snow-covered landscape. Fukui Prefecture may give a strong impression of the sea, such as Tojinbo, but I would like you to know that there is also such a wonderful place.
