Shimoda Kaisen Kuriya opened in April 2024 as a Japanese-style restaurant. Located on Perry Road, a sightseeing spot in Shimoda with its historic buildings, cobblestone pavement, and gas lamps, the store's riverside exterior gives the appearance of an old private house.
It is a popular restaurant crowded with tourists and locals visiting Perry Road, and not only Japanese customers but also foreign customers account for about 30% of the total number of customers.

Kuriya offers the best gourmet food in Shimoda!

Kuriya" is the name of the restaurant. The word originally means "kitchen," but the name was chosen because it is easy to understand that it is a restaurant that serves food, and it is easy for visitors to remember the name.

The restaurant serves dishes using Shimoda's seafood and local sake, and offers a wide variety of set menus. You can choose from several types, such as Kaisen Gozen, Tendon, Soba, and curry, which has been tried and tested since the opening of the restaurant in order to offer it at the restaurant.

Recommended set menus (1) Kaisen Chirashi Gozen

The Kaisen Chirashi Gozen, the restaurant's most popular menu item, includes southern bluefin tuna medium fatty tuna, tuna red meat, tuna tataki, cooked conger eel, salmon roe, red shrimp, squid, scallops, horse mackerel, and white fish. You can taste a lot of fresh and delicious sashimi, and it is colorful and beautiful to look at! It is available at a reasonable price of 3,180 yen (as of June 2025) including tax.

Recommended set meal 2: Kinmeda Tendon (bowl of rice topped with tempura)

The "Kinmeda Tendon" is a hearty bowl of Shimoda's specialty, kinmedai (sea bream), served tempura style. The crispy batter is also very popular. The combination with the accompanying "tarutaru" is also outstanding!

Recommended Set Meal (3) Sashimi, Boiled Sashimi Gozen

When we visited, we actually had the "Sashimi and simmered dish". This set meal was not available when the restaurant first opened, but due to customer demand, it is now a popular menu item that anyone can order! We are now able to fulfill the desire to eat both fresh sashimi and simmered sea bream! The fresh sashimi and the simmered sea bream are both available. There are two slices of simmered sea bream, which are thick and very satisfying. The accompanying eggplant is tender and tasty, and the pumpkin and taro are also delicious and go well with the broth.
Sashimi and simmered seafood gozen, with a small bowl of cooked food, will be available at a renewed price starting in July.

A la carte menu that can be ordered at night!

Shimoda Kaisen Kitchen also serves delicious dishes during the evening hours. There are many a la carte dishes that can be ordered, including seafood, meat dishes such as pork stew and roast beef, and Potato Salad, a standard izakaya menu item. The menu items they offer may change depending on the season, so you can enjoy seasonal ingredients.

The seared and vinegared mackerel is finished carpaccio-style and served with a homemade Japanese olive oil sauce. It is a popular menu item among the locals, and many people visit the restaurant for this dish.

Sake such as Shimoda Bijin and Kurofune Mashu are available, as well as shochu such as Toushu, which is made from rice produced in Shimoda. In addition to Black Label beer, there is also Shizuoka Mugishu, a limited edition beer from Shizuoka Prefecture, which goes well with the food.

The interior of the restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere, with black chairs and tables made of light-colored wood for furniture.
