THE ROYAL HOUSE SHIMODA, with its beautiful Kumiko craftsmanship

This restaurant will open in 2019 on Mt. The restaurant was designed by Eiji Mitooka, the designer of the cruise train "Natsuki-star in Kyushu" and "THE ROYAL EXPRESS". The open style with high ceilings and stylish interior that makes you want to take pictures creates a comfortable and special atmosphere. The building is directly connected to the ropeway's Mt. Through the door, you will feel as if you have wandered into a museum. The warm natural wood interior makes visitors feel special.

The room partitions and lampshades are made of kumiko-zaiku, and the interior is decorated with marquetry. Kumiko work is a woodworking technique in which wood is assembled into geometric patterns without the use of nails. When Buddhism was introduced from Baekje (present-day Korea), the techniques necessary for temple construction were introduced along with it. The original technique of Kumiko work is said to have started around that time, and has been handed down by craftsmen from the Asuka Period (593) to the present day. The restaurant's "Japanese" atmosphere with a touch of exoticism will warmly welcome not only Japanese but also people from many other countries.

Tantalize your taste buds with exquisite cuisine at a restaurant with a spectacular view

The grand menu is small in size, but the menu is very particular, and includes Shunkatei's special spicy curry with minced meat, Japanese spaghetti with kama-age shirasu and mushrooms, and fried horse mackerel sandwich, just like in Shimoda. There is also a menu of sweets such as pancakes and shaved ice, as well as drinks with a local flavor such as mikan juice in addition to coffee and tea. In addition, if you apply in advance through a travel agency, you can enjoy a Kaiseki bento box lunch that offers a sumptuous and creative meal that lets you fully appreciate the bounty of Izu-Shimoda. The artful and gorgeous bento box lunches, which feature dishes made with an abundance of fresh seafood and locally grown vegetables, are a must-see for the photo booth!
