History of the Kashiwa Festival

The Kashiwa Festival is a summer tradition for Kashiwa citizens that draws approximately 700,000 visitors each year. Tracing the festival’s origins… it began in August of Showa 44 with the sponsorship of the city’s Lumber Center and the Kashiwa Ginza-dori Shopping District Association, featuring the famous “Awa Odori” dance from Tokushima, and has a history spanning over 40 years.Later, members of the merchants’ association in front of Kashiwa Station joined in, and the “Kashiwa Commercial Festival” was held. In Showa 53, it was renamed the “Summer Festival: Kashiwa Festival” with the slogan “The Joy of Interaction—Everyone Gathers Together,” transforming it into a local festival created not only by shops but also by many citizens.The Kashiwa Festival was born that year and has grown significantly alongside the town. Kashiwa Festival" will be crowded again this year

The 2026 Kashiwa Festival will be held over two days, Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, in the area surrounding JR Kashiwa Station.From 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM, lively events will unfold under the summer night sky. The Kashiwa Festival, which is bustling with locals and tourists every year, is packed with highlights, including traditional mikoshi processions, a variety of spectacular performances, and vibrant food stalls run by local residents.In 2026, the entire city of Kashiwa will come together to create an unforgettable summer experience during these two days filled with excitement. Mikoshi parade

In addition to the Kashiwa Odori and Shin☆Kashiwa Odori, the “Mikoshi Parade” is another highlight.
On Sunday, you can enjoy a spectacular parade featuring children’s mikoshi, a procession of “matōi” (decorated banners), citizen-carried mikoshi, mikoshi from Katori Shrine and Kashiwa Shrine, and the “Mantō Mikoshi.”With many bearers participating, their spirited chants and the majestic sight of the mikoshi heighten the festival’s excitement. This year, too, many citizens are expected to participate, making for a vibrant mikoshi procession that carries on the tradition. In particular, anyone in junior high school or older is welcome to join as a bearer for the Citizens’ Mikoshi. Please check the official website for details on how to participate.
