History of the Kashiwa Festival

The Kashiwa Festival is a summer tradition for the citizens of Kashiwa that attracts about 700,000 people every year. The origin of the Kashiwa Festival can be traced back more than 40 years to August 1969, when the city's lumber center and the Kashiwa Ginza Street Merchants Association joined forces to hold Tokushima's famous "Awa Odori" dance festival. Later, people from the shopping association in front of Kashiwa Station gathered further and the "Kashiwa Commercial Festival" was held. In 1978, the name was changed to "Summer Festival Kashiwa Festival" under the slogan of "Fureai Yorokobi Minna Tsudo" as a hometown festival created not only with stores but also with many citizens. The "Kashiwa Festival" was born in this year. The festival was born out of the daily activities of the city and has grown together with the city, sharing the joy of life with the people. Please join the Kashiwa Festival and experience it for yourself!

Mikoshi parade

In addition to the Kashiwa Odori and Shin☆Kashiwa Odori, the "Mikoshi Parade" is one of the highlights of the festival.
On Sunday, visitors can see a powerful parade of children's mikoshi (portable shrines), coats of arms, the portable shrines of citizens, Katori Shrine and Kashiwa Shrine, and the Mantoh portable shrines. The many carriers participate in the parade, and their vigorous shouts and the heroic appearance of the portable shrines heighten the excitement of the festival. This year, too, many citizens will participate in the parade, and it will be a lively parade to carry on the traditions of the festival. In particular, anyone who is junior high school age or older is welcome to participate as a mikoshi carrier.
