I stayed at Awara Onsen [Matsuya Chisen]!

A map of Fukui's local sake welcomes you at the passageway!
We stayed at Matsuya Senzen in Awara Onsen, Fukui Prefecture! Awara Onsen is a hot spring resort where each inn has its own hot spring well because the hot water is not managed jointly. Among them, Matsuya Senzen offers a wide variety of baths, and boasts one of the largest open-air source baths in the Hokuriku region.

A peaceful view of the countryside from our room!

This time we stayed in a Japanese-style guest room in the Sensenkan. The room had a view of the countryside from the window and was a relaxing place to stay. After taking a breather, we headed for a walk around the inn!

You can enjoy the experience of making hot spring eggs♪

You can try your hand at making onsen tamago (hot spring eggs) at the museum. Each person writes a mark on a raw egg, puts it in a basket, and waits for 20 to 30 minutes.
While waiting, we browsed the souvenir shop, had a cup of coffee at the tea lounge, and relaxed while planning our trip. The tea lounge was open from 7:00 to 10:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00, so it is recommended before dinner or before departure.
Read the directions carefully...
Don't forget to write down the landmarks!
And so, the onsen tamago was successfully prepared! The melt-in-your-mouth condition is perfect! Salt and spoons were available in the tea lounge, so we could sit down and savor them.

After strolling around the inn, we went to the Awara Yunomachi Station area!

After enjoying the museum, we strolled to Awara Yunomachi Station! It is about a 7-minute walk from Matsuya Chisen to the station. Just a short walk from the station is the free footbath facility "Ashiyu" and "Yukemuri Yokocho" where you can enjoy a food stall village.

One of the largest baths in Hokuriku!

Now, back inside the building, we went to the public bathhouse. It is rare to find a ryokan that offers such a wide variety of baths, including a sleeping bath, a jar bath, and a variety of open-air baths. Towels and lotion are provided in the large baths, so it is nice to be able to go without them.

One person at a time can choose what they want to eat! Dinner with a choice of main dish!

Dinner was served at the "Seasonal Dining Sen no Sachi. This time, we chose the "Dinner with Choice of Main Course," in which we could choose two main dishes. Each person can choose what they want, so this time we all chose something different! It feels luxurious to be able to choose your favorite meat and fish.

Taste Japanese Breakfast

For breakfast, you can feel THE Japanese breakfast with grilled fish, squid sashimi, and small bowls of rice, but it is a luxurious lineup that you can enjoy only at a ryokan. I was glad that the miso soup was heated in a pot for each person and served hot.
Also on that day, a morning market was being held in front of the souvenir shop from 6:00 am. The market was full of seafood from the Hokuriku region, including dried fish, dried shrimp, and pickled firefly squid. Fresh products were available for home delivery, and there was a large assortment of products that were easy to take home.
After taking a morning bath, we checked out of the ryokan in a relaxed atmosphere. When we left the ryokan, the staff waved handkerchiefs to see us off. It was a wonderful scene of hospitality!
