Shisui Town is located in the northern part of Chiba Prefecture. Shisui Herb Garden is easily accessible from central Tokyo and can be easily visited as a short trip. It is conveniently located about 20 minutes by bus from Shisui Station and within walking distance from large shopping facilities, making it a favorite among local residents. The aroma of various herbs has an excellent healing effect. What is "Shisui Herb Garden"?

The garden was opened in 1992 as a symbol of "Herb Town Shisui," focusing on herbs, which were still rare in Japan at that time. 1,800 square meters of land is planted with about 150 varieties of herbs from all over the world. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of herb flowers from late May to fall. Admission is free and pets are allowed (but not in the shop). （Anyone can easily stroll around the park, which is barrier-free (pets are not allowed in the store), and actually touch the herbs and inhale their favorite fragrance.

After passing through the entrance of the garden, you will be greeted by numerous herbs on the brick-tatami-mat pathway. Beyond that, a round flowerbed is filled with colorful seasonal herbs and plants. These flowerbeds are regularly replanted, so you can enjoy a new view each time you visit.

The lavender fields in the park are at their best around mid-June. The purple flowers spreading all over seem to soften the summer sun, and along with the fragrance, it is a time that soothes even the soul. The view of the lavender fields through the wooden arches is especially recommended. We interviewed a person in charge of the Culture and Tourism Division of the town of Shisui, which manages the herb garden.

Q. What age groups frequent the garden?
A. We have visitors of all ages, but on weekends we have many women in their 20s and 30s.

Q. What kinds of things can visitors enjoy in the garden?
A. The herbs in the garden bloom differently each season, so you can enjoy a new fragrance each time you visit the garden. Also, herbs have their own language of flowers, and it is interesting to find the herb of your choice.

Q.What herbs do you recommend?
A.Butterfly peas are interesting: they are in season from June to around September, and their fresh flowers are used as herb tea, and when dried they are used as dried herbs. When combined with lactic acid bacteria beverages, you can enjoy the change from the beautiful contrast of summery blue and white to pale purple. It will be added to the menu at the coffee corner around August!
