Takahata Town, Yamagata Prefecture. This area has long been known as "Mahoroba no Sato" (Village of Mahoroba), and is home to the Takahata Winery, a favorite of wine fans. About 2.5 hours from Tokyo by Shinkansen bullet train, the winery can be reached on foot from JR Takahata Station, making it a rare location where everyone can enjoy tastings together! At the Takahata Winery, you can enjoy many wine tastings, purchase wines that are only available at the store, and even eat wine soft serve ice cream made from Mahoroba no Nyokai, a popular wine at the Takahata Winery. We will also introduce "Folklo-Ro Takabatake", a lodging facility located a 0-minute walk from the station, and "Taiyokan", a hot spring facility directly connected to the station.

The vineyards and seasonal scenery spreading out from the Takabatake Winery

The Takahata Winery is surrounded by spacious vineyards. Just a 10-minute walk from JR Takabatake Station, the winery is an ideal spot to stop by between sightseeing tours.

Winery store where you can observe the production process and enjoy wine tasting

Inside the Takahata Winery facility, visitors can tour a portion of the production process, as well as the storage tank yard and underground cellar. Storage conditions are very important for maintaining the quality of wine. In this underground cellar, you can see how temperature, humidity, light, vibration, and smell are carefully controlled. We invite you to experience it for yourself.

The winery store is staffed by a qualified sommelier certified by the Japan Sommelier Association, so you can feel confident in your wine selection. After the tour, let us know your preferences and mood from a wide variety of wines, and we will find the perfect wine for you.

Introducing Takahata Winery's recommended souvenirs.

In addition to wine, the store also offers a wide variety of original products such as juices, adult wine sorbets, pasta sauces, and jams. There are also a number of store-exclusive products such as "original balloon jelly flavored with rosé juice" and "wine-infused walnut yubeshi," which are sure to be a hit with your eyes. Why not bring home a taste of Takahata as a souvenir? We also have an online store. You can buy the products you are interested in at the online store first.

Cafe "Gozzonale Takabatake" with wine by the glass and light meals

The Takahata Winery also has a "Gozzonale Takahata" where you can enjoy tastings and light meals. You can enjoy a glass of wine with a pizza and cheese. Tastings range from a casual one glass ticket to a special three glass set ticket, and on the day we visited, there were a total of 12 different wines to choose from. In addition to alcohol, grape juice and creme brulee ice cream are also available, which can be enjoyed as if you were in a café.

Lady Soft" using the popular wine "Mahoroba no Lady

A popular product unique to Takahata Winery is the "Lady Soft" made with Mahoroba's Lady, an extremely sweet white wine. The slightly sweet and mature taste is very appealing. The soft-serve ice cream, which I also enjoy every time I visit, can be purchased at the outside store for 450 yen.

Folklo-Lo Takabatake also has "Toreiyu Tsubasa Concept Room".

Hotel Folklolo Takahata" is conveniently located next to JR Takahata Station, where you can check in comfortably regardless of weather conditions, as the station and the hotel are connected by a passageway. The train platform is right in front of the hotel, so train view rooms with a view of the Yamagata Shinkansen "Tsubasa" from the room are also popular. The hotel front desk can arrange car rental (reservation required) and bicycle rental (operated by the town's tourist association), making the hotel a good base for travel.

TREI-YU TSUBASA Concept Room" where you can meet "TREI-YU TSUBASA" once again.

We also recommend the concept rooms featuring the motif of the "TREIYU TSUBASA," which will be retired in March 2022. The room is furnished with seats that were actually used, and photos of the last run are also on display. In addition to the "original amenity bag" and "original coaster," guests will also receive a "footbath towel" that is a reproduction of the one that was given out when the TOREIYU TSUBASA was in operation. How about a souvenir of your trip?

10 steps from the ticket gate⁉Taiyokan is a general community facility with a hot spring and functions as a JR station building.

Taiyokan is a general community facility with a hot spring and functions as a JR station building, a rarity in Japan. The facility has a hot spring and sauna, so you can relax after a long day of travel. Guests staying at Folklo-Ro Takabatake can enter for free as many times as they like, so be sure to take advantage of it. It is also a great place to work up a sweat after cycling along the "Mahoroba Greenway," which utilizes the former railroad tracks. Other facilities include a restaurant and sales of local products, allowing visitors to enjoy all of the area's attractions at once.

Botan Garden" with more than 800 peony plants of about 260 varieties is also recommended!

At the Botan Garden adjacent to Taiyokan, more than 800 peony plants of about 260 varieties bloom around mid-May. These are peonies that were displayed at the "Mahoroba Winter Blooming Peony Festival" held every February, and some of the plants are more than 10 years old, making them well worth seeing. The sight of the large, multicolored flowers in full bloom is breathtaking and adds color to the arrival of spring. It is also a great spot for taking pictures.
