The Iwaki City Coal and Fossil Museum Horuru, located about 15 minutes walk from JR Yumoto Station, is a facility that exhibits the history of mining in the Joban coal field, fossils excavated in the city, and fossils from other countries that tell the history of the earth. The entrance of the museum welcomes visitors.
The dinosaur named "Pisuke" by Nobita in the Doraemon movie was modeled after Futabasaurus suzukii.
Since the museum was built in a coal mine, visitors can not only see dinosaur fossils, but also learn about the history of coal mining and coal mines around the world.
In the fossil exhibition hall, dinosaur fossils that seem to be ready to move are displayed with sound and light effects, and various creatures that lived in the distant past tell us various things about their times and transitions.
It is also a very popular tourist spot where visitors can try their hand at making ammonite specimens and accessories made from kohaku, which is a rare experience.
(Please note that there may be changes depending on the transition and circumstances of the coronavirus infection. Please check the website for the latest information.)
Futabasaurus suzukii welcomes you!
