The only aquarium in Ishikawa Prefecture, the Notojima Aquarium!

About 35 minutes by bus from Wakura Onsen Station, we arrived at Natsuo Aquarium, looking out over the magnificent Nanao Bay! Notojima Island, where Notojima Aquarium is located, is an island in Nanao Bay, and is connected to the mainland by two bridges, Notojima Bridge and Twin Bridge Noto (Nakanoto Agricultural Road Bridge) *Closed for the time being due to the Noto Peninsula earthquake, it has excellent access!

A whale shark welcomes you!

Upon entering the aquarium, you will be greeted by whale sharks!
The Notojima Aquarium is the only aquarium on the Sea of Japan side that has whale sharks on display. Unfortunately, the two whale sharks originally bred at the aquarium died due to the earthquake, but in October, the aquarium welcomed a new whale shark that came in through a fixed net, and the famous exhibit at the aquarium was restored! (At the time of our visit, the aquarium was still looking for a name for the whale shark.)
Whale Shark exhibit is back! Whale sharks and stingrays are also on display!

Many of the aquarium's animals are making a comeback!

Due to the earthquake, the water supply to the aquarium was cut off and the aquarium was severely damaged. As a result, the dolphins, otters, and other creatures that had been kept at the aquarium were temporarily evacuated to other aquariums in Japan. Repairs to the facilities have been completed, and the evacuated creatures have gradually begun to return to the aquarium! On the day I visited, "Nissy" and "Goh," two Pacific white-sided dolphins that had been evacuated to Echizen Matsushima Aquarium in Fukui Prefecture, returned to the aquarium!

In order to reopen the exhibit, the cooperation of ''that person'' is also needed...!

In the "Fish of the Southern Seas" corner, there is a heartwarming display like this. The exhibit was reopened with animals from six other domestic aquariums, including the Uozu Aquarium and the Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium. Among the exhibits, the most eye-catching was the "Sakana-kun" booth! He is a true doctor of fish, having bred enough fish to be able to donate them to the aquarium!

Watch this space! My recommendation!

If you come to Noujima Aquarium, you should definitely check out the penguin area. Of course, the cute penguins are noteworthy, but one of the unique exhibits of the aquarium is a correlation chart of the penguins kept in the aquarium! The chart shows the relationships of the penguins, from the usual "husband and wife" and "parent and child" to "ex-couple" and "ex-adulterous couple but now husband and wife". Once you see it, you will smile!

Please visit the Natoshima Aquarium!

As of November 19, some events such as "Dolphin and Sea Lion Show" and "Penguin Walking Time" have not been resumed, but the exhibits are still worth seeing!
