Have you heard about the "Minami Uonuma, Serious Rice Bowl" campaign being held in Minami Uonuma, the most famous Koshihikari rice producing area in Japan? This is a limited time event where you can enjoy a large bowl of rice prepared by chefs who know the charm of Minami Uonuma Koshihikari and have fallen in love with its taste.

What is the "Minami Uonuma Serious Rice Bowl" Campaign?

The "Minami Uonuma, Serious Rice Bowl" campaign is an event planned under the theme of "what only a production area can do" to improve the brand power and increase the number of visitors as a production area of Koshihikari rice, which boasts the best taste in Japan. The event was named "Serious Rice Bowl" to express the desire for visitors to "taste the full flavor" of Minami Uonuma Koshihikari, which has a strong image as an expensive and rare brand of rice, and to enjoy the real taste of Minami Uonuma.
The event has been held since 2015, and the number of rice bowls served in the past 9 years has exceeded "450,000 rice bowls"! The total number of rice bowls served over the past 9 years has exceeded "450,000 rice bowls"!

Minami Uonuma Koshihikari" is highly regarded as one of the best tasting Koshihikari produced in Uonuma! The texture is soft and chunky with a good stickiness, and while it is delicious freshly cooked, the sweetness and stickiness can be fully appreciated even when the rice is cold.

This year, 41 restaurants in the Muikamachi, Shiozawa, and Yamato districts of Minamiuonuma City are offering 48 bowls of ichi-oshi-don, which are full of originality!
Among them, we introduce four restaurants participating for the first time this year.

A sumptuous bowl of roast beef with Koshihikari rice produced in Minamiuonuma and melt-in-your-mouth Japanese beef! Carefully selected Japanese beef is cooked at a low temperature to slowly bring out the flavor and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. Local Koshihikari rice produced in Minamiuonuma is cooked with spring water and topped with a luxurious 100 grams of roast beef and an egg yolk resembling a full moon!
Limited to 15 servings per day.
A large serving of meat is also available for an additional charge.

Mameya rice bowl [Tofu shop's cafe Mameya: Shiozawa area].

A healthy yet filling bowl of rice! A local Hoshino Tofu shop has opened a new café.
The rice bowl is made with their signature deep-fried silken tofu and Japanese chicken breast, deep-fried and grilled, then tossed in a tangy and spicy original special sauce seasoned thickly to go well with the rice. It goes perfectly with Koshihikari rice produced in Minamiuonuma!

Kurozu Chicken Nanban Donburi [Uonuma Kurayu Farm Rice Shop: Shiozawa District].

Uonuma Kurayu Farm grows "Koshihikari from the former Shiozawa Town," which is one of the most highly regarded Koshihikari produced in Uonuma. It is a very rare rice, and the amount in circulation is about 0.1% of the rice available in Japan! The rice used in the rice bowl is also made from Koshihikari produced in the former Shiozawa Town!
Two pieces of crispy deep-fried chicken tornadoes are used to give the dish volume, and to prevent it from becoming too heavy, sour and rich black vinegar is poured over the chicken tornadoes. The tartar sauce is also a nice touch to add variety to the flavor!
The volume of this dish is designed so that even men will like it and women will enjoy it to the end!

Spicy Sri Lankan Kagura Nanban Curry [Sri Lankan Cafe and Restaurant Araliya: Shiozawa area

The Serious Rice Bowl offered by the restaurant where you can enjoy authentic Sri Lankan cuisine is a curry developed to convey the appeal of Minami Uonuma's food using homemade Koshihikari rice and "Kagura Nanban," a traditional vegetable of Minami Uonuma.
Kagura Nanban is a spicy vegetable, but the key point is that the combination of spices in the curry makes it less spicy! The curry is served mixed with rice and all the vegetables in the side dish for a special taste.
