Hachinohe Recommended Spots
Hachinohe is home to JR Hachinohe Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line, and is a popular area convenient for sightseeing. In addition to historical spots, there are many places where you can enjoy local delicacies and other attractions! In this issue, we will pick up three of these places and introduce them to you.

Jomon is art! Enjoying national treasures at the Koregawa Jomon Museum

Don't you have an image of the Jomon period as a time when people lived a primitive life with the bare minimum of necessities? But in reality, they lived a very rich life. The Koregawa Jomonkan exhibits a glimpse of the Jomon period through a stylish and easy-to-understand display of excavated artifacts. Some of the exhibits allow visitors to actually touch and feel the technology of the Jomon period.

What you should take a closer look at at the Koregawa Jomonkan are the actual excavated artifacts such as earthenware and clay figurines! The rim of the earthenware looks like a milk crown, and the rim of the earthenware is lined with small and large ▲ in a very fast-paced pattern. The patterns are also unique, so each piece is like a work of art. The patterns are also unique, so it is recommended to take the time to appreciate them one by one as if they were art. There are also miniature earthenware vessels for those who love small things, as well as lacquer-coated earthenware that looks like it could be a contemporary artist's work.

There are also many clay figurines on display, some of which look like "aliens! There is a rich variety of clay figurines on display, ranging from cute to slightly scary, from "alien! Time seems to fly by as you take a good look at them one by one. In addition to earthenware and clay figures, there are also Jomon-era accessories and stamp-like artifacts, which make it easy to imagine how people used them.

Waiting for you at the end of the exhibit is the national treasure, the Gassho Clay Figure. The exhibition is a lavish use of an entire room, and as one would expect from a national treasure, it has a special feeling.
Gassho Clay Figure, a national treasure
Gassho means "joined hands. While there are a relatively large number of clay figurines with their arms crossed, it is very rare to see them with their hands folded together. Clay figures are often found together with broken earthenware and animal bones in places called "dumping grounds," but this Gassho Dogu was found at the site of a dwelling, which is also said to be very rare. There are also some asphalt repair marks on it, so it may have been cherished for generations.

The history of the Gassho-Dogu is also on display in front of the exhibition room.

Have a hamburger at a wine brewery!

After reminiscing about ancient times at the Koregawa Jomonkan, it was time for lunch at Bronze Grill, where you can enjoy craft burgers made with local ingredients.

Stylish interior (as it looked at the time of the interview)
At Bronze Grill, you pay for your food and place your order using a machine. There were so many different types of burgers to choose from that I was at a loss, but this time I chose the "Hachinohe Shorthorn Beef Aged Cheeseburger" with a side of fries and today's burger, the "Umami Shiitake Mushroom Burger".

While waiting, you can watch the wine being brewed. Wine in a burger shop? You may think, "Wine in a burger shop? You can also purchase wine brewed by Sawauchi Brewery in the restaurant.
You can watch the brewing process from inside the restaurant.
Sawauchi Brewery's wines are on display.
After looking around the store, the long-awaited burgers arrived. Both burgers looked very tasty and my expectations were high! When you bite into the Hachinohe Shorthorn Beef Aged Cheeseburger, you will be filled with the texture and flavor of the meat. It is recommended for meat lovers, as you can enjoy the robust flavor of the meat.

Umami shiitake mushroom burger
The "Umami Shiitake Mushroom Burger" is today's burger for the first time in two years. First of all, let's take a look at the appearance! The bun looks like a big shiitake mushroom with a cutout on top. Then, a shiitake mushroom as big as the patty is sandwiched in between, and when you lift it up, it feels quite heavy. When you take a bite, your mouth is filled with the moisture from the shiitake mushrooms and the juices from the patty. Cheese and candied onions are also sandwiched between the patty, and at first glance it looks rich, but it is topped with bonito flakes and seasoned with butter and soy sauce for a Japanese flavor. It is truly a refreshing dish with plenty of flavor.

The meat and other ingredients are delicious, but what surprised me was the bun. The outside is crispy and the inside is soft and fluffy! The buns have a subtle sweetness to them that is unlike anything I have ever tasted before! The buns are handmade in the restaurant. It is a luxury to be able to enjoy a hamburger on a freshly made bun. The buns are made from Aomori pumpkin. It was a very satisfying lunch, and the buns alone were delicious.

A colorful and delicious jam shop!

The last stop was Otte Jam Kobo. It is a cozy and cute jam shop where jams are carefully made one by one using local ingredients from Hachinohe and the neighboring town of Nanbu.
Jam Kobo Otte's exterior
When you enter the store, you will see a lineup of colorful jars, which are very beautiful! It is tempting to choose jams based on the color combination.
A lineup of colorful jams.
We carefully read the introduction and examine the jams.
I would have loved to buy all the jams one by one, but I don't have the resources to do so, so I carefully read the introduction and carefully consider which jam to buy.

There are many jams that intrigue you just by reading the descriptions, such as "Golden Peach" made from Nanbu-machi peaches flavored with honey and brandy, and "Kabochan" made from Towada City pumpkins, which is like vanilla-flavored pumpkin bean paste. After much hesitation, I selected the Hachinohe Strawberry as a souvenir for myself and Momo Kocha, which uses Earl Grey tea leaves and white peaches from Nanbu Town, and was about to pay for them when a new temptation appeared beside the register!
Baked sweets sold next to the cash register
I couldn't resist the temptation and bought both cocoa marshmallow cookies and red apple pie.

The Hachinohe Strawberry is packed with sweet and sourness, and a little bit goes a long way in making toast taste good. Momo Kocha" is a luxurious jam made almost entirely of pulp, which is not an exaggeration. The sweetness of the peaches and the aroma of the tea soothed me, and I was able to enjoy a relaxing breakfast.

Some of the jams are made with wine or other alcoholic beverages, and they also have jams that go well with meat dishes.â

Marshmallow cookies with coffee
Red apple pie looks like a cupcake and is cute and exciting! The crispy pie crust and the sweet and sour taste of the red apple are best matched with the almond cream.

The cocoa marshmallow cookie was served with coffee as recommended by the store. The marshmallow on the cookie stretches when you take a bite! It stretches! The texture of the stretched marshmallow is interesting. The cookie is firm but not too sweet, and the little bit of salt adds a nice accent. I'm sure I'll be repeating this...!

When you visit Otte, be sure to check out their jams as well as their baked goods!
