A variety of tasty bento boxes are available!
Ekiben" are one of the essential travel items for train travel! There are so many stores and varieties of ekiben that you may be at a loss as to which one to buy. The JR East Travel Service Center Niigata staff recommends the following ekiben available at Niigata Station.
In April 2024, "CoCoLo Niigata" will open at Niigata Station with about 170 stores. There are also shops where you can take out boxed lunches. Among them, we would like to introduce a store where you can buy ekiben (boxed meals) near the Shinkansen East ticket gate on the second floor of Niigata Station.

Niigata Sanshinken

Niigata Sanshinken, an ekiben specialty store, is located near the east ticket gate of the Shinkansen on the 2nd floor of JR Niigata Station, where you can find not only its own products but also those of Sanshinken, Shinbata Sanshinken, and Kamio Shoji. The showcase is lined with many delicious-looking bento. In addition to the bentos introduced here, the long-selling "Yukidaruma Bento" and other products are also available.

Selected by the "Ekiben Taishogun" (General of Ekiben)! Shrimp Senryo Chirashi [Shinbuta Sanshinken Co.

When you open the lid of the bento, you will see a fried egg all over! Underneath hides kabayaki eel, vinegared kohada, boiled salted squid, and sushi shrimp.
The sushi ingredients are dipped once in wasabi and soy sauce, and the "Shrimp Soboro" is minced, seasoned, and stewed shrimp. The "Shrimp Soboro" is minced, seasoned, and stewed, and the chefs put a lot of effort into its presentation and flavor.

Made with Niigata Wagyu beef! Murakami Beef Shigure [Niigata Sanshinken Co.

Niigata Wagyu is a Japanese black breed of beef with a fine flavor nurtured in Niigata's rich natural environment. It has been recognized for its high quality, winning honorary awards at national co-exhibition meetings. This ekiben uses Murakami beef, which is especially tender. The beef is stewed in shigure (a sauce made from the shimeyu seasoning) and simmered with soy sauce, sugar, sake, and other ingredients to give it a unique flavor. The beef is so delicious that you can't stop eating it once the sweet sauce has been mixed in. The meat is tender and has little fat, so the more you chew, the more you can enjoy the flavor of Murakami beef.

Only available at Niigata Station! Salmon grilled and pickled bento [Sanshinken Co.

One of "Niigata Prefecture's Local Cuisine" is "Salmon Grilled and Pickled. There is a "Salmon Grilled and Pickled Lunch Box" in Niigata's ekiben! It is said that "Yaki-zuke Salmon" marinated overnight in a secret sauce has a sweet and salty taste, and goes well with Niigata rice.
It is a standard item, but its popularity is also due to the many variations of side dishes. It is a makunouchi bento with a rich local flavor that has been sold for over 50 years.

Bit Market CoCoLo Niigata

Bit Market, located on the WEST SIDE of CoCoLo Niigata's 2nd floor, sells prepared foods, bento boxes, and sweets using Niigata's seasonal ingredients and seasonings.
It is a take-out specialty store that makes it easy and more accessible to enjoy the delicacies of the Tsubamesanjo Bit restaurant, which is based on the concept of communicating the charm of Tsubame-Sanjo, Niigata, to the rest of the world.

Snow room aged beef and Snow Hikari Pork Hamburger Bento!

The rice is of course Koshihikari produced in Niigata Prefecture, but we also use snow-room aged beef and snow-hikari pork.
Snow-room-aged meat has a soft and fluffy texture with little drippings! The more you chew, the more the meat's deliciousness fills your mouth. The accompanying side dishes are also colorful and pleasing to the eye. In addition, a variety of bento boxes are available for each season.

Also available are "Bit-Style Lasagna Niigata Wagyu Beef Bolognese" with concentrated Wagyu beef flavor, "Potato Salad with Black Truffle-Scented Snow-Room-Aged Potatoes and Melty Semi-Mature Eggs" using potatoes with high sugar content, and "Sasakawaryu Salt Basque Cheese Cake" that was awarded the Omotenashi Selection. All are highly recommended, so please try them.
