Akita Prefecture Winter Sightseeing Campaign

From December 1, 2024 (Sun.) to February 28, 2025 (Fri.), Akita Prefecture and JR East Akita Branch will collaborate to hold a "Large-Scale Winter Tourism Campaign in Akita Prefecture". In conjunction with this campaign, JR East Travel Service Center Akita will hold an event in which visitors can challenge "capsule toys" and receive wonderful prizes. In addition, we will introduce photo spots around Akita Station to make your visit to Akita a memorable one!

There are many fun photo spots in Akita Station that you will want to take pictures of! Why not take some photos to remember your trip?

Oga's Namahage

Inside JR East Travel Service Center Akita, there is an authentic Namahage from the Namahage Museum in Oga City on display for you to take a picture with. All of the Namahage are hand-carved, and they are very powerful when seen up close! Please try to take a picture with them in the same pose!

Akita dog giant balloon

In front of the central ticket gate of Akita Station is a giant balloon of Akita Inu (Akita dog), famous for Hachiko (Hachiko). His cute face welcomes all visitors to Akita! The Akita Inu's costume changes with the seasons, and his hat and other costumes are handmade by JR Akita Station employees! In October, when the photo was taken, the Akita dog was dressed up for Halloween.

Namahage

Located right next to the Akita Inu Balloon, a large Namahage also welcomes you. If you stand between the Namahage and take a picture, you can see how big they are.
