Just a short walk from the station! Feel free to visit the world of Ukiyo-e!

The Kawasaki Ukiyoe Gallery ~Fumio Saito Collection~ exhibits works loaned free of charge by the city from the Kawasaki Sunago-no-Sato Museum, a public interest incorporated association. The rich collection, including rare works, amounts to approximately 6,000 pieces, and the wide range of Ukiyo-e collection, from early Edo period paintings to new prints of Meiji and Taisho period, holds Ukiyo-e related to Kawasaki. The museum was opened in 2028 with the concept of an authentic Ukiyo-e experience that can be enjoyed casually with a single coin and a convenient location directly connected to Kawasaki Station. Although the exhibition space is only 100 square meters, there are as many as 70 Ukiyo-e works on display, which can be enjoyed by both newcomers and enthusiasts. The Kawasaki Ukiyoe Gallery logo, which is also used as a signboard, was designed as a silhouette of a boatman at the "Rokugo no Watashi" ferry, which is depicted in Hiroshige Utagawa I's "Tokaido Gojyosantsugi-no Uchi Kawasaki Rokugo Watashi Boat" and in which the boatman paddles his pole with all his might.

Masterpieces of Kobayashi Seichika's "ray paintings" are gathered here.

Kawasaki Ukiyoe Gallery ~Fumio Saito Collection~ is currently holding "Kiyochika Kobayashi, Painter of Light and Shadow" exhibition! Kobayashi Seichika (1847-1915) was a painter active in the Meiji era. He incorporated Western-style expressions of light and shadow into traditional ukiyo-e prints and created original Western-style woodblock prints, laying the foundation for modern prints.

The Kobayashi Seichika Exhibition is divided into two phases, focusing on Seichika's landscape prints, known as "ray paintings. The exhibition also offers a rare opportunity to view Kiyochika's diverse range of paintings, including portraits, historical paintings, portraits of beautiful women, caricatures, and animal paintings, as well as works by his students Inoue Yasuji and Ogura Yanagimura!
