What is Matsukawa Craft Beer Festival?

Matsukawa Craft Beer Festival (MCBF) was first held last year after its representative, Mr. Onuma, was impressed by a beer festival held in Mifuka Town in northern Hokkaido and wanted to hold one in his home village of Matsukawa in Nagano Prefecture. The goal of the festival is to provide an opportunity for people to enjoy beer, food, music, and art in the rich natural environment of Azumino, to contribute to the local community where they were born and raised, to revitalize the community, to promote regional exchange, and to create and transmit a new culture with visitors from inside and outside of the village.

Last year, the food sold out in just two hours, so this year they have greatly increased the number of stalls. In addition to the food and drink vendors, there will be booths that resemble a European marché selling Nagano agricultural products and processed goods, and woodworking workshops will be held, making this an event that can be enjoyed by everyone from children to the elderly. The festival will be further enlivened by a music event featuring five up-and-coming artists, mostly young, who are expected to make their mark in the future!

Matsukawa Craft Beer Festival original beer will be on sale!

This year, MCBF will be producing its own original beer! In addition to being served on draft on the day of the event, a limited number of bottles will also be available for sale. Other original goods such as T-shirts and glasses will also be available. The beer labels and original goods will be designed by Asuka Watanabe, a designer from Matsukawa Village who lives in Tokyo.

Matsukawa Village is said to be "the last village that retains the original landscape of Azumino. The village's specialties are the delicious air from its beautiful natural environment, clean snow water from the Northern Alps, delicious rice grown on the land, and apples grown in the village with long hours of sunshine and little precipitation. Matsukawa Village is the only village in Japan to have an "Azumino Matsukawa Village Suzumushi (bell cricket) Protection Ordinance," which protects the village's rich landscape by preserving the bell cricket.
