Have you ever used incense? We would like to introduce you to the experience of making incense, which brings about a pleasant relaxation and relieves stress and anxiety.

Juttoku.'s Commitment to Incense Making

Juttoku. uses no synthetic fragrances and only carefully selects the best parts of precious natural fragrances. Incense is carefully blended by "incense masters" who have been handed down from generation to generation based on the world view they wish to express, and everything is carefully made one by one by skilled craftsmen using traditional techniques, rather than mass production by machine.

Incense making experience

This time, we would like to introduce three types of incense-making experiences offered at Juttoku. We hope you will enjoy this experience of creating invisible scents, just as the aristocrats of the Heian period (794-1192) enjoyed mixing their own fragrances.

In the hands-on session, you will listen to the fragrance of the ingredients of incense one by one and make your own incense! The session also includes explanations of the types of incense, how to use incense, the history and background of Japanese incense, and what incense is made of, so it is easy to participate. Please spend a moment to face yourself while mixing the fragrance.

Flow of Incense Making Experience

1) Explanation of raw materials used and incense
You will receive an explanation of the 9 fragrances to be used in the experience and knowledge on how to enjoy incense more.

(2) Practice of making incenses!
Experience how to actually make incense.

You will experience how to actually make incense. (3) Original Incense Making
Finally, you will mix the ingredients freely to make your own original seal incense. All tools are provided, so feel free to participate.

Incense seal making
Inka" is a type of incense made by kneading incense and placing it in a mold. It can be burned and enjoyed as it is. The shape is very cute, so it can be used as a room interior.

Making incense bags

Making incense bags
An incense bag is a cloth bag filled with incense that emits fragrance at room temperature. The incense is placed in fabrics of various colors and patterns, and tied with various types of kyokumi-himo (braided cords).

Lacquered incense making experience

Making lacquered incense
Lacquered incense is incense that is applied directly to the body and scented at body temperature. Nurikoh has been used in Buddhism to purify the body and mind and keep away evil spirits, and it has been offered to the main image of the Buddha or used by monks to purify themselves. At the hands-on workshop, you can make two types of lacquered incense for your own personal use.
