What kind of festival is the Morioka Autumn Festival?

Morioka Hachimangu Festival, designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Asset by Iwate Prefecture, celebrates the completion of the town construction of the Nanbu Domain on September 14, 1709, and young people from all the towns dedicate their own elaborate floats (choujirushi = town emblems and signs for firefighting and autonomous organizations in each town) to Morioka Hachimangu Shrine. The festival is said to have started with a three-day parade through the main streets of Morioka Hachimangu Shrine. For this festival, each town begins making floats and practicing drums from the beginning of the Bon festival. During the festival, floats pass through the neighborhoods around the shrine one after another, and they are filled with the sound of taiko drums and the chanting of oyashi.
